Every March 19th, we take a moment to pause and celebrate what truly matters to us—the women who make our work possible.
World Artisan Day isn't just a date on the calendar. It’s a celebration of human hands, living tradition, and the incredible power of craft to uplift entire communities. Here at Lumily, we work with over 200 artisans in Guatemala, Mexico, and Thailand—most of them women, many of them the main providers for their families. Together, we create more than just accessories. We create impact.

More Than Handmade: A Living Tradition

When we say something is “handmade,” what we really mean is:
✨ Crafted using centuries-old techniques passed down through generations
✨ Woven with care, patience, and pride—often on a traditional foot loom
✨ Rooted in culture, with patterns that represent mountains, rivers, and family
These pieces aren’t fast fashion. They’re full of meaning. And they support real people with real dreams.
Artisan Work Is Cultural Preservation
Did you know? In Mexico alone, over 12 million artisans contribute more than 91 billion pesos to the economy every year. Yet despite their cultural and economic impact, many artisans face challenges like mass production, limited market access, and lack of recognition.
When you choose artisan-made, you're doing something powerful. You're helping preserve:
❤️ Ancestral knowledge that could otherwise be lost.
🩷 Sustainable practices that honor the Earth.
🧡 A woman’s ability to support her family with dignity
This is slow fashion that moves the world forward.
What We Believe
At Lumily, we don’t just support artisans—we work hand-in-hand with them. We pay fairly, upfront, and consistently, so our artisan partners can focus on what they do best: creating. Many of the women we work with never had access to education, but they’re expert weavers, beaders, and entrepreneurs. We’re constantly inspired by their strength and creativity.

Why World Artisan Day Matters (Every Day)
This day is a reminder that behind every "pretty product" is a woman who showed up, wove through her worries, and turned thread into art. It’s a reminder that craftsmanship is power—not only economic, but emotional and cultural.
We’re here to keep telling their stories, and to keep creating a more beautiful, connected world—one handmade piece at a time.
