In the hills of southern Mexico, where traditions are stitched into daily life, lives a woman whose journey is deeply intertwined with ours.
Her name is Rebeca, and our founder has had the honor of watching her grow for more than 13 years.
Our founder met her as a young girl, the daughter of one of Lumily's very first artisan partners. While her mother worked, Rebeca would sit nearby, hands always busy, absorbing every thread of tradition passed down. Tzotzil, an Indigenous Mayan language, is her first language, and Spanish came later. When our founder visited, Rebeca often helped translate, bridging the gap between her mother, who speaks only Tzotzil, and the world beyond. Even as a child, she was the connector.
At age 18, Rebeca officially joined Lumily, making friendship bracelets by hand. Her role quickly grew, fueled by her natural talent and deep knowledge of the craft. Today, she leads her own artisan group, crafting vibrant accessories that reflect her heritage, her creativity, and her heart.
Ethical Artisan Stories: Rebeca's Journey from Student to Leader
Rebeca didn’t just learn to create, she grew up surrounded by it. Her mother taught her the techniques of traditional handcraft, the value of patience, and the quiet pride that comes from finishing something made by hand.
As Rebeca came of age, so did her role. She stepped into the work, not just to earn an income, but to honor her family’s cultural roots. Eventually, she became the leader of the group her mother once belonged to. Under her guidance, this group of women, many of them mothers themselves, continue to design and produce beautiful, meaningful accessories.
Rebeca is now a mother of two, balancing family life with creative leadership. Her husband supports her work, and together they’ve built a life where tradition isn’t just preserved, it’s lived, shared, and celebrated.

Handmade Accessories from Mexico: A Collection Rooted in Culture
Every piece in Rebeca’s collection is made in southern Mexico, not mass-produced, but slowly and skillfully crafted. Her colorful keychains, bracelets, and accessories are vibrant, joyful, and full of purpose.
You can see the care in every detail: the tightness of the stitching, the intentional color pairings, the playful but refined design. These pieces aren’t just gifts. They’re Rebeca’s way of supporting her children, keeping tradition alive, and inviting others to carry a little bit of her culture with them.
