Our Hmong Batik Beach Tote is part of our Oases Collection, which includes a variety of lovely goods made with traditional batik and hand-stamped by women artists in Northern Thailand.
The Hmong hill tribe ladies of Northern Thailand create this beautiful work of art. They stamp hot wax designs onto cotton textiles with big copper blocks. Making wax outlines allows the dye to only color the areas that aren't covered in wax. To achieve the exquisite color, the fabric and wax are dipped in indigo and other dyes. The wax is subsequently removed by boiling, and the end result is what you see above!
The bag is embellished with handcrafted pompoms and completed with a vibrant colorful elephant.
